Haeundae Blueline Park in Busan: Sky Capsule and Beach Train

What is Haeundae Blueline Park?

If you’re planning a trip to Busan, one of the city’s most popular and Instagram-worthy attractions is without a doubt the Haeundae Blueline Park, a scenic coastal railway along South Korea’s shoreline. Here, you can enjoy two unforgettable experiences: the Sky Capsule, colorful cabins that glide slowly along the coast with stunning ocean views, and the Beach Train, a panoramic train that connects several stops along the waterfront.

In this complete guide, you’ll find everything you need to know: history, tickets, schedules, how to get there, and the must-see attractions nearby.

History

The Haeundae Blueline Park was created by restoring the old Donghae Nambu railway line, which was discontinued in 2013. The project transformed a 5 km stretch along the Haeundae coast into a scenic park with pedestrian walkways and iconic trains.

Today, Blueline Park has become one of Busan’s most beloved attractions, thanks to its spectacular ocean views and the unique experiences it offers visitors. The park stretches from Mipo Station (near Haeundae Beach) to Cheongsapo and continues all the way to Songjeong Beach.

Sky Capsule: the most popular experience

The true star of Blueline Park is the Sky Capsule, small colorful cabins that move slowly along elevated tracks about 7 meters above the ground. This elevated route offers breathtaking views of Busan’s entire coastline.

  • Speed: about 5 km/h, perfect for enjoying the scenery
  • Ride duration: around 30 minutes from Mipo to Cheongsapo (2 km)
  • Capacity: up to 4 people per capsule
  • Perfect experience for couples and families, with wide windows and direct views of the ocean

Tip: the Sky Capsule is in high demand, especially on weekends and at sunset. It’s best to book your tickets in advance online at a discounted price using the buttons on this page.

Compared to the Beach Train, the Sky Capsule is more intimate, romantic, and scenic. It’s the experience I most recommend at Haeundae Blueline Park.

At the moment, it’s not possible to buy tickets directly through GetYourGuide, but you can join a tour that includes a Sky Capsule ride.

Beach Train: Busan’s coastal train

The Beach Train is the perfect option for travelers in groups or for those looking for a more budget-friendly experience. Its cars resemble traditional trains and can accommodate more passengers. While the view is not elevated like on the Sky Capsule, the ride still offers stunning coastal scenery, ideal for capturing beautiful photos.

The train covers a 4.8 km stretch from Mipo to Songjeong, traveling at a leisurely speed of about 15 km/h. Despite covering a longer distance than the capsules, the journey still takes around 30 minutes. Along the way, it passes several scenic spots, including the Dalmaji Tunnel, Cheongsapo, the Daritdol Skywalk, Gudeokpo, and Songjeong. You can board at Mipo, Cheongsapo, or Songjeong, but whether you can get off depends on the type of ticket purchased:

  • Pass for a ride: one-way direct trip, no intermediate stops
  • Pass for two rides: round trip from the same departure point, also without stops
  • Pass for all stops: day pass that allows unlimited hop-on, hop-off access

That said, if I had to recommend just one experience, I’d choose the Sky Capsule: more exclusive, relaxing, and memorable. Also, the Beach Train is often crowded, so a seat to enjoy the views is not always guaranteed.

Tickets: prices and where to buy

Tickets can be purchased on-site, but it’s very difficult to find Sky Capsule availability on the same day. To avoid disappointment, make sure to book online a few days in advance—spots sell out quickly, especially on weekends.

So, how much does the Sky Capsule cost?

  • Sky Capsule price: from 40,000 to 50,000 KRW total, depending on the number of people per capsule
  • Beach Train price: from 8,000 to 16,000 KRW per person, depending on the type of ticket

Opening hours

The schedules change every month depending on the season:

  • Sky Capsule: 9:00 am – 6:00 pm / 8:30 pm (closing time varies by season)
  • Beach Train: 9:30 am – 6:30 pm / 9:30 pm (closing time varies by season)

I always recommend checking the updated timetable on the official website before your visit, especially in winter. The best time to ride is at sunset, when the sun reflects over the ocean, but honestly, any time of day is perfect to enjoy the view.

How to get to Haeundae Blueline Park

The park starts at Mipo Station, which is easily accessible by public transportation. Simply take subway line 2 and get off at Haeundae Station (exit 3 or 5). From there, it’s about a 20-minute walk or a 5-minute taxi ride.

As recommended in my Busan itinerary, pair your Sky Capsule ride with a stroll along Haeundae Beach and other nearby attractions.

Where to stay in Haeundae

If you want to fully enjoy the experience, I recommend staying in Haeundae, the most lively and tourist-friendly area of Busan.

Nearby attractions

One of the reasons why the Haeundae Blueline Park is so popular is its proximity to many other top attractions in Busan.

  • Cheongsapo: a small fishing village famous for its twin lighthouses and fresh seafood restaurants. It’s also one of the stops on both the Sky Capsule and the Beach Train
  • Haedong Yonggungsa Temple: a spectacular Buddhist temple overlooking the sea
  • Busan X the Sky: an observatory on the 100th floor of the Haeundae LCT Tower, featuring a glass floor and breathtaking views
  • Haeundae Beach: the most famous beach in Busan
  • Dongbaekseom Island: a small green peninsula with scenic seaside walking trails
  • The Bay 101: a trendy area with restaurants, cafés, and stunning nighttime views of the illuminated skyscrapers

The Haeundae Blueline Park is a must-visit when exploring Busan. The Sky Capsule offers a unique and romantic experience, while the Beach Train is a great alternative for families and groups. Book your tickets online at a discounted price and enjoy one of the most beautiful views in South Korea!
