On August 6, Suga was stopped by police after losing his balance while parking an electric scooter under his house. According to reports from the news outlet Soompi, which obtained information from the Seoul Yongsan Police Station, the BTS member was taken to the police station, where he received a ticket and had his license withdrawn after testing positive for alcohol beyond the limits allowed by law.
The news was later confirmed by his agency, Bright Entertainment, through a post on Weverse. The message reads: “Suga fell while parking, after traveling about 500 meters. A nearby police officer administered a breathalyzer test, which resulted in a fine and suspension of his license. Fortunately, no one was injured and there was no property damage as a result of the accident.”
The agency representing BTS pointed out that Suga was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident and announced that the artist will face disciplinary measures. Suga is also currently completing his compulsory military service as a community service officer—an alternative form of service that allows him to move freely as a normal citizen after 6 p.m. The Military Manpower Administration stated that the incident is not subject to military law.
It should be noted that in Korea, electric scooters are classified as "personal mobility devices" and are subject to the same laws that apply to motor vehicles. Driving a scooter while intoxicated therefore carries the same administrative penalties as driving a car under the influence.
An apology followed the next day from Suga, who shared a message on Weverse: “I am deeply sorry and apologize for disappointing you with this news. Last night, after drinking during a dinner party, I returned home using an electric scooter. I broke traffic rules, mistakenly believing it was just a short ride. Although no one was injured and no property damage occurred, the responsibility is entirely mine, without any excuse. I sincerely apologize to everyone. I apologize to anyone affected by my careless and wrong actions, and I will be more careful in the future to prevent such accidents from happening again.”
The return of Suga is scheduled for 2025, the year when all BTS members will finally reunite to work on a new album and deliver their long-awaited comeback in a big way.
