Two giant pandas born in Korea: they are twin cubs

Giant pandas born in South Korea

A giant panda named Ai Bao recently gave birth to twin girls at Everland Park, located near Seoul, South Korea. The birth took place on Friday, July 7, but the official announcement was made only on Tuesday, July 11. Both Ai Bao and the twins are reported to be in excellent health. Thanks to decades of conservation efforts, the giant panda species has been saved from extinction, with the population increasing from fewer than 1,000 individuals to more than 1,800, both in the wild and in captivity.

In the wild, giant pandas have a life expectancy of about 15 years, while in captivity they can live up to 38 years. Everland Park will closely monitor the cubs’ health and development before deciding when to introduce them to the public.

Ai Bao and her mate, Le Bao, arrived in South Korea from China in 2016 as part of a 15-year conservation program. In 2020, Ai Bao gave birth to a female cub named Fu Bao. Until now, Ai Bao, Le Bao, and Fu Bao were the only giant pandas living in South Korea.
